Well that’s hard to say…
There’s Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji.
Hiragana and Katakana are like alphabets; There are letters and you combine them to make a sentence.
Kanji are Chinese characters incorporated into the sentences to distinguish meanings. For example, in English, you can differentiate to, too, and two. In Japanese though, because they all sound the same, you won’t be able to tell which meaning the person meant to use. Kanji is used to separate them.
e.g Hana can mean nose or flower. You use kanji to write 花 (flower) and 鼻 (nose) instead of Hiragana (はな).
There are many different ways to talk. There’s the casual way, the polite way (Keigo [敬語], and there are many types of keigo as well) and I suppose the somewhat rude way.
I’m horrible at explaining, so you might have to do some research to understand what I mean.
